I started coaching Neeru in the summer of 2019 and it’s been a pleasure to work with her and to help her improve. Her commitment and dedication to our training program has been consistent and she has improved significantly as a result. Not only have her technique and strokes developed, but also her understanding of tactics and strategy adding to her versatility as both a singles and doubles player. I invite you to read about her journey in the game so far.
What led you to get into tennis?
At the age of 13, I started playing tennis along with other sports, but I gradually became passionate about tennis.
What do you like about the game?
I like how tennis is just as mental as it is physical. Playing tennis not only helps me get better at the sport, but also helps me become mentally strong.
How’s the High School season been for you? What improvements have you noticed since last year’s season?
My high school season has been well so far. This is my first year playing doubles on Varsity, which allowed me to experience the doubles game in tennis. This season, I noticed improvements on my serves, backhands and volleys. I also noticed progress in my mental toughness during stressful parts of the game.
What milestone would you love to achieve in the game?
One milestone that I would love to achieve is playing at a higher level.
What coaching tip has helped you the most?
Focus on the process, not the outcome. Play one point at a time and play each point with the same effort and mentality irrespective of the score.
What have you learned through tennis?
I learned hard work, patience, mental toughness, and professionalism. These qualities improve my character outside of tennis.
What would you like to share with other players who may be considering playing and learning tennis?
It takes time and patience, you can’t expect improvement overnight. Have a goal in mind and when you are playing remind yourself of the goal. Besides, tennis is a fun sport.
It is fantastic to see how tennis is helping Neeru build her physical and mental strength as well as her character on and off the court. I look forward to her continued progress and to helping her play at a high level for her high school team and beyond in college.
Best,
Harsh
